What to Do First

  1. Make sure everyone is safe

If there is any immediate danger, call 911 first.

  2. Prevent further damage where it's safe to do so

Keep receipts for any emergency expenses.

  3. Contact us as soon as possible to report the claim

The sooner we know, the sooner we can help.

  4. Document the damage

Take photos and videos before anything is moved, repaired, or disposed of, and make a list of what was damaged or lost.

  5. Don't dispose of damaged items yet

We may need to assess them as part of the claims process.

What Happens Next

  1. Initial Contact

A claims representative will contact you to discuss the loss and walk you through what to expect.

  2. Damage Assessment

Depending on the claim, an adjuster may be arranged to assess the damage in person.

  3. Resolution & Settlement

Once everything is reviewed, your claim is settled as fairly and as quickly as possible under the terms of your policy.

A claim moving along a curved path through three stages: reporting it, review of the documents, and the repaired home at the end.

We know this isn't a fun process. We'll do our part to make it as smooth as possible.

Questions about a claim already in progress? Call us or send us an email — we'll pick it up from there.

Notice Regarding Claims Adjudication

MarketLink assists with reporting your claim and will guide you through the process. Claims are adjudicated and settled by The Mutual Fire Insurance Company of British Columbia. Coverage determinations and settlement amounts are made by the insurer based on the terms and conditions of your policy.
