Coverage That Actually Makes Sense
We'll walk you through exactly what a MarketLink home insurance policy covers — no insurance degree required.
What's Always Included
Every MarketLink homeowner policy comes with the following core coverage built in. These are not add-ons — they are the foundation of what we provide.
Coverage A — Dwelling
If your home is damaged or destroyed by a covered event — fire, windstorm, explosion, and more — we cover the cost to repair or rebuild it. Coverage is based on replacement cost, meaning we cover what it actually costs to rebuild today, not what your home was worth when you bought it.
Coverage B — Detached Structures
Got a detached garage, garden shed, or fence? Those are covered too — automatically included at 10% of your dwelling limit.
Coverage C — Personal Property
Your furniture, appliances, electronics, clothing — the things that make a house a home. Standard coverage is set at 70% of your dwelling limit and can be adjusted to reflect what you actually own.
Good to know: your belongings are covered inside your home and temporarily away from it. High-value items like jewellery or art may need to be listed separately — see Personal Articles Floater below.
Coverage D — Additional Living Expenses
If a covered loss makes your home unliveable temporarily, we help cover the cost of living somewhere else while repairs are underway — hotel, meals, and other reasonable costs, up to 20% of your dwelling limit.
Coverage E — Personal Liability
If someone is injured on your property, or if you accidentally damage someone else's property, liability coverage protects you. Standard coverage includes up to $1,000,000 in personal liability, with higher limits available.
Good to know: liability coverage includes legal defence costs, not just damages.
Optional Coverages
Your home is not like everyone else's. These optional coverages let you build a policy that fits your specific situation.
A quick note on water: A quick note on water: sudden and accidental damage — a burst pipe, an overflowing washing machine — is typically covered as standard. Water that comes from outside your home, or up through your drains, needs one of the options below.
Water Protection
Specialized water endorsements for overland flooding and sewer backup.
Overland Water (Enhanced WaterPROTECT)
Coverage for damage caused by water entering your home from heavy rainfall, rapid snowmelt, or overflowing lakes and rivers.
Sewer Backup (Limited WaterPROTECT)
Covers damage from water or sewage backing up through your drains. More common than most homeowners expect.
Your Property & Valuables
Additional protection for high-value items, home systems, and underground utilities.
Earthquake Coverage
BC sits in an active seismic zone. Worth a serious conversation, especially on the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Availability and pricing may depend on your property's geographic location within British Columbia.
Home Systems Protection
Covers the cost of repairing or replacing key home systems and appliances when they break down.
Personal Articles Floater
Dedicated coverage for high-value items like jewellery, fine art, or bicycles above your standard contents limit.
Service Line Coverage
Protects against the cost of repairing underground service lines on your property.
How You Use Your Home
Specialized coverage for business, cyber risks, and rental use.
Cyber Coverage
If your personal data is breached or you fall victim to online fraud, cyber coverage helps cover costs and provides expert support.
Home-Based Business
Standard home insurance does not automatically cover business-related losses. This optional coverage makes sure your work is protected too.
Rental Income Coverage
Protects against lost income if a covered loss makes your rental unit uninhabitable.
Short-Term Rental Coverage
Coverage that addresses the unique risks that come with renting your home on platforms like Airbnb.
